Barye sculpted many small models of Rabbits and Hares in the early part of his career when he was studying as a goldsmith. These small bronzes proved very popular and they were cast for many years. They are still sought after since they fit well in any collection. The Rabbit Crouched is a good example if this genre and shows a rabbit at rest. It is mounted on the original sienna yellow marble base. This bronze is finished in a light brown patina.
