Wah Ming Chang was born in 1917 in Hawaii and grew up in San Francisco where his parents' tea room was a haven for artists. Young Wah Chang was sponsored by the artist Blanding Sloan who was a life long influence. In 1939, at age 21, Wah became the youngest member of the Disney Studios Effects and Model department where he worked with the animators of Pinocchio. Over the next 30 years, Wah Chang was well known for his work with many studios doing special effects. In 1970, he and his wife moved to northern CA where he turned his hand to sculpting wildlife. He was a successful sculptor and continued to model animals and exhibit them up to a few years before his death in 2003. His small bronzes are excellent portrayals and are prized today.
